Meet Tamara
Tamara’s roots are deep in agriculture. She grew up on a mixed cropping-and-livestock farm, earned a degree in Agricultural Science, and—together with her parents—took a leap into berry growing. They founded Murrakei Berries, drawn to an industry that felt progressive, hands-on, and full of potential. Today, the farm thrives in Red Hills, Tasmania, where mild summers and cool nights create ideal conditions for premium soft fruit.

The farm’s polytunnel rows brim with strawberries (including Sweetest Batch), raspberries, and blueberries. Most mornings open with a quick staff huddle before Tamara walks the tunnels, checking plant health and chatting with her team—locals and seasonal workers from abroad whose shared energy keeps the farm buzzing.

Sustainability steers every decision: biological pest control protects the crop, and bee-friendly plantings keep pollinators happy. Off the farm, Tamara and her crew support community events and raise funds for local charities—a small way of giving back to the region that helps their berries flourish.

Ask Tamara her favourite way to enjoy the harvest and she doesn’t hesitate: fresh off the plant, still warm from the tunnel—though a quick dip in chocolate never hurts. Looking ahead, she hopes more young people see a future in farming and carry the torch for Tasmania’s next generation of berry growers.
